Abstract
The healthcare environment in many countries including South Korea is facing major changes. These changes refer to the pandemic diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019, correlation of increase in chronic diseases and aging society, development of information and communications technology based medical technology, and emphasis on patient-centered service. To cope with the above changes, Korean Medicine can be considered as a suitable and essential resource and the following is the proposal for policy issues to be tackled regarding the healthcare environment: (1) arrangement of an institutional device for safe landing of telemedicine system and development of health insurance fee for Korean Medicine service facilities; (2) adoption of chronic disease management program and community care model involving Korean Medicine doctors; (3) improvements of medical platforms to collect comprehensive and high-quality clinical data and preparation of institutional devices to safeguard the patient information and rights; and (4) utilization of Korean Medicine in national health insurance via expanding coverage for integrative medical care and adjusting herbal medicine pilot program in accordance with relevant issues.
